USA College of Nursing Development Council

The Development Council is an exceptional group of dedicated individuals who have graciously donated their time, treasure and talent to advance the University of South Alabama College of Nursing. Membership is comprised of distinguished graduates of the College, current and former faculty and local community leaders. They serve as ambassadors for College faculty, students and programs. Their mission is to assist the Dean and development staff in securing private gift support, creating awareness and engaging alumni and members of the community with the College.

Council Members

Natasha AndrewsNatasha H. Andrews - Natasha H. Andrews graduated from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ with a degree in Biology in 1999. After working as a Chemist for two years at Tencel, she returned to USA to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2006. She then went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2010, becoming an Adult Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. She worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Our Neighborhood Healthcare Clinic, based at University Hospital for over a year and a half. In 2012, she became the Vice President of DHS Medical Services PC, a home-based primary care provider. Under her leadership, DHS expanded its coverage radius to provide medical care to home bound patients in Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia counties. Natasha has worked for several years to better the health of those in her community. As evidence of this, she developed her own non-profit organization, Connection NP Services, which maintains an accredited Diabetes Self Management Program that provides Diabetes Self Management Education to community members. She also currently serves as the Interim President of the Mobile Bay Black Nurses Association.

 

JoAnn Broadus

JoAnn Broadus - Mrs. Jo-Ann Broadus retired from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 2004, after 25 years with the University and over 40 years as a nurse educator. Mrs. Broadus served as the Chair of the Maternal Child Nursing Department and Coordinator of the Women’s Health NP/Clinical Nurse Specialist Track at USA. She has held leadership positions within the Alabama State Nurses Association and held membership in numerous nursing professional organizations. Jo-Ann was inducted into the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame in 2007, she was received the Distinguished Service Award at the University of South Alabama in 2010, and in 2014, received the Recognized Leader Award from UAB College of Nursing. Ms. Broadus also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. For more than 20 years, Jo-Ann has served as the director of Eastern Shore Dogwood Trail and scholarship program. Mrs. Broadus remains active in other civic organizations and continues to speak to community groups regarding the nursing profession. Most recently, she received the Volunteer of the Year award from the City of Fairhope. Mrs. Broadus has not only impacted the local community, but has also performed mission work in Iraq, El Salvador, Guatemala and Russia. Jo-Ann earned a BSN from the University of Alabama, MSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½.

  

Monica BusbeeMonica Busbee - Mrs. Monica Busbee graduated in 1976 as one of the members of the inaugural BSN class at the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ (USA). She began her career in Pediatrics at USA and then worked in the NICU when it was housed at the Medical Center. Mrs. Busbee was as a part-time Clinical Instructor for USA College of Nursing from 1979 to 1992 in Pediatrics and OB. She assumed her role with the College of Medicine as Clinic Coordinator of USA Developmental-Behavioral Clinic in 1993 and continues in that role today. Mrs. Busbee is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing International Honor Society for Nursing and is a lifetime member of the USA Alumni Association.

 

   

Mr. Craig Carroll, Jr.Craig Carroll - Mr. Craig Carroll, Jr. received his BSN from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 2010. He served as Charge Nurse in the Cardiovascular ICU until 2012. Craig worked in nursing administration from 2012 until 2015. Currently he serves as the Mission Point Health Partners Provider Network Administrator for the Gulf Coast Health System.

 

 

 

 

   

Debra DavisDebra Davis - After serving as the College's Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Studies for eight years, Dr. Debra Davis was hired as dean in 1998. During Dr. Davis' tenure the college has experienced tremendous growth. In the fall of 1998 the enrollment in the college of nursing was 964 and has grown to over 3000.. This growth reflects the reputation of the program in the community for offering high quality innovative programs. 

 

  

 

 

Sherry DanielsSherry Daniels - Dr. Sherry Daniels began her nursing career as a diploma graduate of Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. Upon graduation, she received the J. H. Kahler award for excellence and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Minnesota. She chose instead to attend the University of Chicago. Following a move to Mobile with her husband, she received her BSN degree from USA. Dr. Daniels continued her education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning both and MSN and a PhD. She is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. She is also a lifetime member of the USA National Alumni Association. Dr. Daniels retired from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 2005 after 26 years as a nurse educator, where she served as faculty, chair of the Adult Health Department and project director of a 5 year, 1 million dollar grant from HRSA which instituted online education for the College of Nursing. Dr. Daniels was awarded emeritus status upon her retirement. She has performed mission work in Venezuela and Mexico and currently serves in the local community, teaching for the Area Agency on Aging and serving as a board member of Westminster Village, Assistance League of Mobile, New Mobilians and PEO.

 

Heather HallHeather Hall - Dr. Heather Hall is the Interim Dean for the USA College of Nursing, after serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for several years. Heather has served the nursing profession and the Mobile community through the Alabama State Nurses Association, Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council, Autism Society of Alabama Mobile Junior Board Member, and a judge at the Dogwood Trail Scholarship and Pageant. Heather was also named one of Mobile Bay’s Top 40 under Forty in 2013. Dr. Hall has served as the university community as Title IX Coordinator for College of Nursing, College of Nursing Search Committee, University Student Academic Retention and Success Committee, Advising Policy Council, Global Engagement Research Committee, and University Student Marshal at the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½. Dr. Hall is a 1998 and 2001 graduate of the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ (BSN and MSN) and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in 2008.

 

Patsy KennedyPatsy Kennedy - Mrs. Patsy Kennedy received her BSN from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 1996, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Certification through NCC in 1982, and RN from MIMC in 1972. Patsy recently retired as Manager of Staff Development (HSF Administration) at the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½. During her career, Mrs. Kennedy served five years on the BOD for AWHONN headquartered in Washington, DC and as its President in 1998. Mrs. Kennedy has received numerous awards including an Appreciation Award from the Alabama State Prenatal Committee and AWHONN National BOD, the Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Award from the Alabama State Nurses Association and the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ College of Nursing’s Leadership Award. Patsy has served in a number of volunteer capacities such as the USA Leadership Council for the 50th Anniversary and as a coordinator of the faculty/staff annual fund campaign. Patsy and her husband Ray continue to support the University as lifetime members of the National Alumni Association and are avid Jags fans. 

 

Jan MendenhallJan Mendenhall - Ms. Jan Mendenhall began working for ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 1976 and served as the L&D nurse manager at USA from 1978 until her retirement in 2004. Jan was instrumental in the unit moving from the Medical Center is USA Children and Women’s Hospital. Today she remains on faculty with the USA College of Nursing in the Maternal/Child Department. Jan’s work in the College of Nursing includes classroom instruction, teaching at the bedside and the operation of the patient simulator lab, which allows our nursing students to receive proper training before interacting with actual patients. Jan earned both a BSN (1993) and MSN (1996) from the USA College of Nursing.

  

  

Mr. David SweetDavid Sweet - Mr. David Sweet is the Regional Vice President for Fresenius Kidney Care South Alabama/ Florida Panhandle Region. Before Mr. Sweet started working FMC in 2008, he was the Regional Director of Operations for the Florida Heartland Home Health and Hospice and also served as the Corporate Chief Operation Officer Home Health, Hospice DME and Infusion, Community Health Systems. Mr. David Sweet has received several honors and awards including 8 letters of Commendation from the U.S. Navy and the University of South Alabama Nursing Leadership Award. David has served as Chairman of the local Mayoral Campaign and is on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Kidney Foundation. Mr. Sweet received his BSN from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 1994, his certificate from the post graduate WOCN program in 1996 from Emory University, and his MSN from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ in 1997.

 

Iris TatomIris Tatom - Mrs. Iris Tatom is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and owns her own business, Advanced Nurse Practitioner Consultants, Inc. Through her business, Mrs. Tatom works with Sacred Heart Medical Group in Pensacola, Florida. She has held many different positions as a Nurse Practitioner and taught Advanced Nursing Practice at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (UAMS) and held a faculty appointment with the College of Medicine at UAMS. Mrs. Tatom received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½, her Masters in Nursing Science from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science and Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Arkansas Little Rock. She also has earned 30 hours toward a Master’s in Business Administration from Troy State University. She has traveled to Niamey, Niger, Africa many times and served as a medical missionary. She has worked with Breaking Chains Ministry in Brussels helping to free women in human trafficking. Iris is married to Colonel John Kent Tatom (USAF Ret.). Together they have 5 children and 13 grandchildren. They attend Navarre 1st Assembly of God Church, Iris is Missions Director and Kent serves as an Usher among his other duties in the church.

  

Julee WaldropJulie Waldrop - Dr. Julee Waldrop is a Professor of Nursing at the University of North Carolina and is Associate Editor of the Journal of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Waldrop received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina in 1981, her BSN from the Texas Woman’s University in 1986, her MSN from the University of Illinois, at Chicago, in 1991, and DNP from Duke University in 2010. Dr. Waldrop is part of the Leadership Mobile Class of 2016 and supports and attends a number of University and community events along with USA President, Dr. Tony Waldrop.

 

 

 

Chad Williams- Mr. Richard Chad Williams graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1996 and later returned to school at the University of South Alabama, receiving his BSN in 2014. While attending the University of South Alabama, Chad became a member of Sigma Theta Tau and received the Excellence in Practice Award from USA College of Nursing in 2014. Currently, Chad is an RN at Mobile Infirmary and is a member of the Alabama State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Chad is also a proud lifetime member of the USA Alumni Association.
