The festival is co-sponsored by The Jewish Federation of Huntsville and North Alabama and The Pensacola Jewish Federation. This is the first time for this partnership, which will enable viewers to enjoy films and programs from home.
鈥淲hile we can鈥檛 be together in person this year, we still believe that a well-made film is the best way to connect us, to entertain us, and to bring about meaningful dialogue,鈥 said Festival Co-Chairs Barry 天美影视传媒man and Rickie Voit. 鈥淭he virtual film festival is thrilled to be able to expand to reach new audiences and bring meaningful programming from partner communities.鈥
In addition to the local collaboration, the Mobile Jewish Film Festival joins more than 60 other events across the country in showcasing some of the best independent films annually.
鈥淚 think we have all realized that, through the pandemic and the frayed politics in the past few years, we are stronger when we work together, rather than work independently to various constituencies,鈥 said Dr. David Meola, the Bert and Fanny Meisler Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies at USA. 鈥淚 hope that the cooperation between Huntsville, Mobile, Birmingham and Pensacola will usher in a new resolve, despite the distance, to continue this work in the future, and not only in matters regarding the film festival.鈥
Meola said the films featured this year give viewers a chance to learn about great stories, with many of the featured films based on the lives of real people.
鈥淎gain this year, we are also featuring films that showcase films about the African-American experience,鈥 Meola said. 鈥淲e have a strong history of Jewish and Black relations, and we want to continue to honor that in the films we showcase.鈥
