SGA Officers Elected For 2017-18

Introducing the newly elected 2017-2018 天美影视传媒 SGA officers:

Elections have been held, and the 天美影视传媒 Student Government Association has new officers for the 2017-2018 academic year. SGA officers protect and advance students鈥 interests as well as promote the welfare of the student body. The organization operates as a constitutional democracy and is comprised of executive, judicial and legislative branches. The new officers:
- Carl A. Thomas, 21, of Calvert, Ala., a graduate of Citronelle High School, will serve as president. Thomas is a junior majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing management. He is currently completing his term as president of the African-American Student Association, and he鈥檚 vice-president of the Collegiate 100 of South Alabama, a USA Southerner, SGA senator for the Mitchell College of Business and a member of the Mortar Board National Honor Society. Thomas also received the 2017 Board of Trustees Recognition Award, was named to the 2016 Dean鈥檚 List and received the 2015 Distinguished Academic Award. He is the son of Carl and Jonita Thomas.
- Elizabeth Hernandez, 20, of Hayden, Ala. a graduate of Cleveland High School, will serve as vice president. She is a junior majoring in biomedical sciences and modern and classical languages with a Spanish concentration. Hernandez is a secretary for Alpha Epsilon Delta, current Senate-Pro Tempore for SGA, member of the Honors Program, Phi Sigma Iota Honors Language Society and the College of Medicine Spanish Interest Group. She is also a Whiddon Honors Scholar, member of the Early Acceptance Program for the College of Medicine and a recipient of the American Business Association of the Gulf Coast Scholarship. She is currently involved in researching 鈥淚dentification of Health Literacy in the Immigrant Latino Population in Mobile County鈥 with Dr. Diego Alvarez, associate professor in the College of Medicine. She is the daughter of Noe and Carmen Hernandez.
- Kevin Aria, 20, of Mobile, a graduate of Baker High School, will serve as treasurer. He is a junior majoring in biomedical sciences. Aria is president of the Bioethics Club, and vice president of the Mortar Board National Honor Society. He鈥檚 a USA Presidential Scholar and recipient of the Outstanding Physics Student of the Year Award for 2015. He is the son of Matthew Aria.
- Joshua Robertson, 20, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., a graduate of Paul W. Bryant High School, will serve as attorney general. Robertson is a sophomore majoring in nursing. He is a member of the South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band and the South Alabama Collegiate 100. He is also a USA Presidential Scholar. He is the son of Linda Hargrove.
- Taylor Davis, 21, of D鈥橧berville, Miss., a graduate of D鈥橧berville High School, will serve as chief justice. She is a sophomore majoring in political science and philosophy. She is a founder and president of the Pre-Law Society, a member of the South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band, Women of Excellence, Philosophy Club and Mortar Board National Honor Society. She is a USA Presidential Scholar, Freshman Leadership Scholar and James A. Yance Law Scholar. She is the daughter of Kevin and Daphne Davis.
